what is a doula?
Every once in a while I hear the question, "So, what exactly do you do? Do you deliver the baby? Do you check the cervix?" While the answer to both those questions is no, there are MANY things that a doula DOES in fact do. In general, we provide informational, physical, and emotional support before and during labor.
DONA (Doulas of North America) has a fantastic website that goes into more detail as to what a doula's role is in the birth process. I have attached the link below.
During a doula interview, it is VERY important that you not only ask the doula about her experience but also ask her to give you a picture of what working with her would look like. Often times, this will help you decide if this particular doula is a good fit for you and your birth vision.
